Chrysler 26, 1979

Factory Specifications:

  • L.O.A. is 26'
  • L.W.L. is 22'
  • Beam is 8'
  • Draft is 2'3" (board up) to 6'2" (board down)
  • Displacement is 5000 lbs.
  • Ballast 2000 lbs.

    Recent Improvements (2009-2011):

    All new DC electrical system:

  • CD Stereo with cabin and cockpit speakers - with Ipod input.
  • Two new DC switch panels (8 switched circuits - 2 still unused)
  • 4 new 26 amp-hour sealed gel-cell batteries (104 amp hours). All are individually fused for safety.
  • New Master DC disconnect - except for bilge pump which is wired to always-connected float switch.
  • LED anchor light with light sensor to turn off automatically if you forget to switch it off [Lightsensing Owl. $36 from https://www.bebi-electronics.com/].
  • LED steaming light (photo below) [Masina. $30 from https://www.bebi-electronics.com/]
  • Halogen deck light
  • All new mast wiring (Rancor marine cable)
  • New LED light in V-Berth with three brightness levels and night light [Fautasi Vevela. $59 from https://www.bebi-electronics.com/]
  • Best quality Alpenglow main cabin light (has high/low and red LED modes) [9W dual-power with LED nightvision. $120 at https://www.alpenglowlights.com/]

  • BoomKicker added in 2010 (topping lift removed, but can always be added back)
  • Completely new Boom Vang with new Harken hardware.
  • New hatch adjusters on front hatch - holds securely.
  • Removed stanchions and rubrails. Added backing plates to stanchions. Epoxy filled and redrilled holes. Resealed and reinstalled.
  • Reinforced center board trunk, replaced thru hull for centerboard cable, new stainless steel center board cable, new center board winch.
  • Bottom paint touch up when on trailer in 2010. Painted with Pettit Trinidad anti-fouling.
  • New motor mount built by me in 2009. The original does not allow the larger Honda 4 cycle outboard to be tipped out of the water to reduce motor drag. New mount does. Built with epoxy and fiberglass encapsulated plywood. Old mount was cracked and had been reinforced (also included with boat).

  • New mainsheet cam cleat (Harken).
  • New jibsheet jam cleats.
  • Main and jib cable halyards replaced in 2010 - should last for a long time.
  • Have new backstay, but haven't installed it yet. Current one is safe, but had some visible abrasion (no broken strands) so I wanted to replace it the next time the mast is down.
  • Added non-skid tape to companionway steps in 2010. I should have done this the first day I bought the boat!

    Boat Features:

  • Edson wheel steering with lighted compass binnacle. Cables in good shape with no slack. This was a main reason we purchased the boat - my wife and kids enjoy the wheel steering.
  • Honda 4 cycle 9.9 HP outboard with electric start and cockpit throttle control. Dedicated deep cycle flooded lead-acid starting battery (separate from new house battery bank). New spark plugs in 2011. New pump impeller in 2009. Starts and runs great. I change the oil and plugs every year.
  • Bimini with stainless steel frame and all stainless steel fittings (many less expensive Bimini's use aluminum poles and plastic end fittings).
  • Full dodger with all stainless frame and fittings.
  • Full canvas to encose the entire cockpit. Barely used. Makes the cockpit additional living space.
  • Shore power and ac wiring including 6A battery charger, AC outlets, and microwave (only on shorepower).
  • Roller furling 150% Genoa and Mainsail.
  • Genoa has adjustable tracks for sail tuning. Track holes were epoxy-filled, redrilled, and rebedded in 2010.
  • Custom folding companionway screen and custom screen for bow hatch. Has great ventilation when camping and screens keep the bugs out.
  • Lots of custom cabinetry including a plate comparment behind the sink and a folding galley table.
  • Main cabin cushions re-upholstered in 2007.
  • Water system with 12V switched pump and drain.
  • Includes Butane stove (with several fuel canisters). Works great for weekend cooking and stores underneath cutting board.
  • Custom boards that span between the folding cabin table and the settees to make extra sleeping space. We've slept up to 7 on the boat (with one in the cockpit). With the cockpit fully enclosed, the cockpit can become useful living space.
  • Depth Sounder with transom-mounted transducer.
  • Anchor, chain, and rode.
  • Anchor locker - great for storing the chain and rode.
  • Swim ladder - easy to get on board.
  • Full bow and stern rails and lifelines.
  • No trailer included.

From the photos, you can see that overall the boat is in great shape, but she does have cosmetic dings, slightly crazed portlights, etc. typical of her age. The Chrysler 26 is an excellent sailing boat - we regularly don't have to touch the wheel on reaches once the sails are set. We love this boat, but are selling because the kids are getting bigger and bringing friends and thus we hope to be in the market for a slightly larger boat.

    Thanks for looking!
