Flying Dutchman, 1974,
Los Altos, California
The FD was the Olympic double handed dinghy for over 3 decades.
In competent hands it will still blow away most of the competition.
Due to its almost 20 ft. length it is roomy as well, and good for larger sailors.
US1359 is a 1974 Hein 1-1/2 bottom cold molded FD which was originally built for Dennis Surtees.
It sailed in the '76 Montreal Olympics as the US team boat with Freeman/Mathias aboard where they placed 6th.
This boat was fully restored in 2008, stored indoors and has seen only fresh water use on Lake Tahoe for the last 2 summers.
New deck and under structure, (mostly) new hardware - all Harken, 2 part poly on hull and a brand new custom built trailer.
I have lots of detailed pics of the restoration which can be provided on request.
2 masts (SuperSpar and Needlespar) and a spare boom. 2 sets of older sails. Generally updated to mid '90's technology.
Needs only a spinnaker sock, all launching hardware (Spiro, etc.) is present and functional.
Buy a set of new sails and race it in the FD Worlds this Sept in Santa Cruz, CA.
A classic wood hot rod with lots of fun left in it.
