Bolger Light Schooner, 25', 2002, Houston, Texas, $1,400, SOLD 9/9/11
Bolger Light Schooner, 25', 2002
I bought this boat to sail in the Texas 200 where she proved to be a fast and fun boat that took good care of her crew over the 200 plus miles of strong winds and choppy water.
She was one of the very few boats that made it to all the primary stops during this years event.
I made a few modifications to make the boat more suitable for a long trip through the the shallow Texas bays including:
A new kickup rudder with stout ash tiller and extension,
An oversized kickup lee board,
Extra reef points in the dacron fore and mainsails.
Widened the side decks on the aft cockpit for more comfortable seating and the ability to heel farther over without taking on water
Made a drop in board between the seats so we could sleep on deck.
Made covers for the front cockpit for gear storage
Ran lines aft to make sailing from the aft cockpit possible
Installed nav lights and ran wiring for cigarette outlet under port side deck battery compartment is in the bow - battery not included (I used the battery from my pick up)
The hull is plywood with fiberglass sheathing on the outside of the hull.
It is a homebuilt boat, but wasn't built my me.
Finish is a rough work boat finish. Spars are unstayed wood.
Comes with trailer.
The Schooner has been sold to a fella in Midland thanks to Sailing Texas.
