Southern Star is the first yacht of 19 of the Ted Hood/GulfStar collaboration to produce the GulfStar 40 cruiser racer. This sloop built to higher performance standards than any of the other Gulfstar models of her day went on to claim her fame and take ocean racing silver. Her hull is Airex cored unlike the later hulls of this model that followed her which are balsa cored. She is a true cruiser/racer with classic lines and cruising comfort down below. Her shoal draft "whale" hull with centerboard makes her an excellent choice for cruising her home waters of Florida and the Bahamas. Her current owner is a naval architect/marine surveyor/boat builder that has been in the yacht yard business in the Tampa Bay area for many years. He has consistently and professionally maintained and upgraded her. For the buyer looking for a shoal draft comfortable cruiser with known true performance she represents an excellent value.
SELLER WOULD BE WILLING TO TAKE A SMALLER TRADITIONAL YACHT WITH A LOWER VERTICAL CLEARANCE OR A TRAWLER IN A PARTIAL TRADE. HE IS NOT AFRAID OF WOOD BUT DOES NOT WANT A PROJECT BOAT.
