O'day Tempest, 23', 1968

  • Length 23 feet
  • Beam - 7 feet
  • Displacement - 3000lbs
  • Ballast - 1250 lbs
  • Designer - Phillip Rhodes

This is a classic daysailer/weekender keelboat with small cabin designed by Phillip Rhodes. I have owned the boat for 2 seasons and have used it primarily for weekend cruising. The reason we are selling is that we are moving up to a larger boat.

In 2010 we added custom sunbrella cabin cushions by Brunswick Cushion in Maine, and epoxy barrier coated and faired the cast iron keel.

In 2009 Portland Yacht Services installed all new stainless steel standing rigging. I added a Bomar forward hatch with teak trim for cabin ventilation and light, a new masthead assembly with spinnaker halyard and windex, new jib sheets, and a stainless steel hinged mast step. With the hinged mast step two or three people can raise the mast without the assistance of a crane.

    The boat also includes:

  • 2003 Nissan 6HP long shaft 4-stroke outboard with 3 gallon gas tank. The motor attaches to the boat through a well in the stern. Motor runs great and is very quiet.
  • 2003 headsail with Schaefer roller furler in decent shape
  • 2003 dacron mainsail and canvas cover in decent shape
  • Solar panel and controller keeps the battery topped off all summer
  • Three winches, one for each jib sheet and one on the mast. The winches are original Wilcox-Crittendens. This year I have serviced them and they are still in good condition.
  • Running lights on bow and stern
  • Depth finder
  • The boat includes 5 boat stands that have recently been sanded and painted.

This spring I am in the process of repainting the deck, varnishing all woodwork, rebedding all deck equipment, and installing new cabin windows. I will put a fresh coat of bottom paint on for you and it will be ready to launch and sail away.

Boat is currently located on Peaks Island, ME, right near Portland, ME.
