Bruce Kirby designed this boat to be a winner from the start. First launched in 1972, she proved to be a classic in design, speed, looks, popularity price. There are over a thousand sailing world-wide. In IOR heyday, the SJ24 held more IOR certificates than any other boat design.
She's recognized to be particularly strong in light air yet is also competitive in winds above 20 kts. She won overall best performance honors in Yachtings 10th One-of-a-kind regatta at Annapolis and first in division in a fleet that averaged 30 feet in length.
Of its 34 years she has only sailed for 12 years.
Raced only one race in it's life.
When I got the boat it had been sitting in a cradle for 22 years. (See pic).
There was no spinnaker halyard or pole, there were no sails on her.
Since then I have refitted her with all new bedded deck hardware, amsteel cord halyards, high tech light weight sheets, and much more.
Her sail inventory includes a 100% jib, a 145, a 155, a spinnaker, and a drifter.
All halyards, sheets, blocks, and all other standing and running rigging, and custom cradle trailer that needs minor repair.
I have over $8000 dollars into this boat not counting hundreds of hours of tender loving labor.
It breaks my heart to have to sell her, especially at a loss.
What she needs is a couple of rope clutches on the cabin top, and interior wood work.
