This 2010 Alerion Express 33 is an elegant fresh water day sailor that reflects the Nathanial Herreshoff design tradition of lean, light, fast and easy to single hand. These Alerions are a delight to sail and beautiful to look at. This particular vessel has a Flag Blue Awlgrip painted hull, recently detailed, with a buff colored deck and Quantum Fusion kevlar fully battened sails. Total sail area of 609 square feet. The SA/D = 23.1 . Lake Michigan PHRF is 138. It has been occasionally raced on Wednesday nights in the JAM (jib and main) fleet here in Holland, MI winning several series championships over the last three years. Can be easily raced with just a helmsman and one crew. Bottom paint is Pettit Vivid black, refreshed since 2012 haulout.
The Hall Spars mast is carbon fibre, light and strong, so no back stay is required, allowing for a much larger main sail roach for more power. The self tacking jib on a Hoyt Jib Boom provides for effortless tacking and gybing.
On deck, it has Edson wheel steering with an emergency tiller, electric winches, single line reefing, Lazy Jack lines, custom rub rails, life lines, padded seats and padded back rests on the two long facing couches and on the couch aft of the helm station. The Ritchie compass and Raymarine instrumentation are mounted on the binnacle at the helm. There is also a man overboard ladder accessable from the water, stored in the transom.
Raymarine instruments include wind, depth and speed, displays at the helm. Oil pressure, engine water temperature guages and electric bilge pump monitor are visible at the helm. Running lights are LEDs.
In the interior there is a VHF radio, refrigerator, small one burner stove, marine head, sink, facing benches and a V-berth, all with Flag Blue cushions. Varnished teak and white cabinets provide the New England style of simple beauty.
The boat is powered by a Yanmar 20 HP three cylinder diesel with 388 hours. Has Saildrive with folding Gori prop. Boat will move at about 7 knots under power in flat knots. Uses about 1/2 gallon per hour at half throttle. Very quiet.
Boat is currently on the hard at Yacht Basin Marina in Holland, MI covered by a custom double layer cover with flannel material on the inside next to the hull, extending down to the boot stripe at the waterline to protect the Flag Blue Awlgrip paint during the winter months.
