One of the last BlackWatch's built by Dave Autry before he built one for himself and brother and shut down the business.
While this was nearly the 90th hull he gave it Hull No. 001 as it is the one and only gaff rig catboat he built.
In all respects a BlackWatch cutter except for the rig which does not need a compression post so cabin has more open feel.
I purchased it in early 2007 when it was in poor but restorable condition.
Since then:
Hull Polyglowed and just recently stripped and professionally waxed
Rudder rebuilt;
New custom teak bowsprit installed with anchor rack, new running lights, and halyards led aft
New low profile vents for dorades
New Egyptian cotton sail with two reef points (have old sail)
New gel cell battery and new circuit breaker panel; partial new wiring
New depth sounder
New running rigging
New Bruce anchor
New safety gear (life jackets/flares)
New (12/2007) Mercury 5Hp 4 stroke
Added midships cleats
Interior cushions are in good condition.
"New" (spring 2011) used double axel galvanized trailer with new bearings, rims, tires, lights and jack.
All wood on BlackWatch's was Honduran Mahogany. As noted, bowsprit is teak as are three replacement toe rails. Wood around sliding hatch is currently being replaced with mahogany.
The only outstanding maintenance item left is to have the deck and cabin repainted, and some electrical wiring. When complete I believe the boat will have a value of about $12,000.
Boat is on the trailer in dry storage at Mandeville, LA. Many other photos are available.
