The Sun Cat is a 17' cat gaff rig sailboat. It has a shallow draft (14" with the centerboard up), a large, comfortable cockpit, and a sittable cabin that converts to almost a queen-size bed. It's a very comfortable and safe boat that is easy to tow, set up, launch, sail, and retrieve. It's a big little boat. My wife and I have spent a week at a time cruising on it. The boat is in good to very good condition. We're downsizing to a daysailer.
Length overall: 17' 4"
Beam: 7' 3"
Displacement: 1500 lb.
Draft (centerboard up): 14"
Draft (centerboard down): 4' 6"
Sail area: 150 sf
The sail rig is a cat gaff, one sail, so it is easy to handle. It has jiffy reefing.
Because it is a gaff rig, the mast is relatively short and does not extend beyond the end of the boat when it is down.
The mast can be raised and lowered by one person in about a minute. It is hinged in the middle and the forestay is equipped with a quick-locking attachment system.
The hull bottom has an extra epoxy coat on it for durability. It also has anti-fouling bottom coat, which is due for a re-coat if you plan to keep it in the water. There are a couple of places on the bottom of the keel where the epoxy paint could be touched up - the fiberglass is fine.
There is a stub keel with 300 lb of ballast for stability, and a centerboard.
The rudder kicks up.
The anchor is a Delta with chain and about 200' of line.
There is an anchor locker.
All trim is teak.
Because of the cat rig, there is no mast support post in the cabin, so there is lots of room.
I'm 6'2" and can sit up in the middle of the cabin, but not if leaning back.
The honeymoon option is included. It bridges the foot well. We also made two more cushions so that the whole cabin converts to a bed, nearly queen size.
There is an AGM battery and automatic charger. The battery is 2 or 3 years old,
There are running lights and an anchor light, and a light in the cabin.
A 220 to 110 converter pigtail is included.
There is lots of storage! Forward, under the cabin seats, under the cockpit, under the cockpit seats.
The motor is a 2006 Tohatsu 5 hp. It starts easily and runs smoothly.
A gas tank and hose are included.
They store out of the way under the aft seat.
The motor mount retracts.
The boat and trailer together weigh about 2,000 lb.
The trailer is galvanized. It has lights, bearing buddies, and a spare tire.
Other things included:
Bulkhead-mounted compass, built-in bilge pump, boarding ladder on the stern, cockpit seat cushions, bimini, teak cockpit floor boards, tiller extension
Full boat cover, sail cover, bimini cover, tiller cover, and motor cover.
Bumpers, dock lines, porta-pottie (never used:), boat hook, custom cup holders, tiller tamer, life jackets, throw cushion, paddle
I also have a remote (mechanical) motor control system that I don't use, if you're interested.
