Gloucester 20, 1983

Lawrence, Kansas.

This is a well-made cabin cruiser that is designed for easy trailering. Gloucester Yachts, Inc. made two models of this boat: this one has the 300 lb swing keel so it has a very shallow draft, making launching from a trailer easy.

Details:

  • LOA: 19'9"
  • LWL: 18'8"
  • Draft: 12" with keel up
  • Beam: 7'5"

    Included with the boat:

  • 1. Sails: main (90 sq ft), jib (84 sq ft), and genoa (larger jib sail -- area unknown). These are probably the original sails. Condition is pretty good considering the age. Still very usable for cruising.
  • 2. Outboard: Your choice of 3.5 hp Mercury, 8 hp Evinrude, or 40 lbs thrust electric trolling motor with battery and solar panel. We bought the boat with the 8 hp Evinrude. This is really too big for the boat. The 3.5 hp Mercury has an integral gas tank, which is handy. Either of the gas outboards could use a tune up. Neither has been started in over a year. We used the trolling motor for launching and returning to dock. It moves the boat very slowly, but is more pleasant to use than an outboard.
  • 3. Trailer: The trailer is galvanized and is in good condition except the plastic tongue jack wheel is broken.
  • 4. Standing rigging: The standing rigging is complete. Shrouds and stays have a few kinks in them here and there, but were like that when we bought the boat and we have sailed it and enjoyed it with no problems.
  • 5. Running rigging: The lines are all included (halyards, sheets) but are older and could stand to be replaced in the next year or two.
  • 6. Cushions (original -- not great, but serviceable).
  • 7. Anchors: 20 lbs mushroom and 7 lbs Danforth. Weights are from memory and might not be quite right.
  • 8. Photocopy of original owners manual, sales brochure, and Glen-L's 'Rigging Small Sailboats'.

We have owned the boat for two years, and have made a few improvements to it over this time:

  • 1. Removed the keel in 2010, had it sandblasted and powder coated.
  • 2. Installed a new winch for the keel.
  • 3. Installed new Harken cleats for the jib and genoa (4 cleats total) in 2012.

One person can step the mast, rig the boat, and sail it (though it is easier with two). We have had as many as seven on the boat at any one time. She is a bit sluggish with that many people, but still fun.

  • Cabin has four 6'3" berths.

Call or text with questions, to see the boat, or for more pictures.
