This is a well-loved Shields that is currently being pleasure sailed in Baltimore, MD. "Clever" #126 is arguably the most aesthetic yacht in the Baltimore Harbor and earns cheers and admiration everywhere she sails. Designed by Sparkman and Stephens, she was advertised as a "Mini 12 meter". She was recently raced in Chicago, IL, but I only sail her for fun. She has an extensive racing pedigree and a quick internet search shows her participation in most National Championships over the last four decades.
The professional paint job on the hull is one year old (Mike Mullen, Baltimore). Some white rubber from the dock is visible on the sides, but can be removed. The brightwork was done 3 years ago. The deck does need a new coat of awlgrip at some point. The boat has a functional manual bilge and electric bilge. She comes with a whole complement of racing fittings that are 10 years old or younger. She has been completely updated for modern racing and comes with a Velocitek knotmeter, modern mast, new spinnaker pole (Al), 2 mains (Harding and North), 2 jibs (North), and 2 spinnakers. Also, ample PFDs, anchor with rode, carbon tiller extension, mooring cushions, fenders, and removable 2-NM bow light for night sailing.
The hull is watertight and overbuilt. Her trailer is roadworthy, having traveled from Chicago to Maryland in 2010 and needs a once-over and some air in the tires. She has a removable outboard mount off the transom (Spartan, Maine) and a new Torqueedo motor may be negotiated. This boat needs to be gone by November 1, 2013 as I am leaving the country. All titles and documentation available.
