Ready to sail 1970 Melges M-20 Sailboat in good condition. This is the model that sailors are upgrading with a telescoping bowsprit into an Inland 20. Its fiberglass hull is 20' LOA with a 5'8" beam and is sound and in good shape. It has the tapered 25' aluminum mast, and boom with original gooseneck. The North Sails still have that crisp, crackling sound, and main and jib sail bags are included. Everything is working including boom vang, Cunningham, outhaul, etc.
The Jib is 62 square ft. Main, 114 square ft. It has twin dagger bards and rudders. The boat is designed to be sailed at a slight heel to take advantage of the slight tunnel hull design. The boat comes onto plane quickly. With the adjustable back stay, fore stay, jib cars, and main sheet traveler, just about everything is adjustable. The controls are currently set for single-handed sailing, but can quickly be returned to original.
I always wanted to sail one of these fast boats, and it was a blast on the Mississippi. Its speed is the unfortunate reason for selling it. The lake I retired to is just too small for this boat, and I end up tacking/jibing all too soon. Perhaps an MC, or Laser/Zuma will be more appropriate.
The tilt-bed trailer that comes with this boat has good tires. I have clear title on this 1970 boat and trailer, and registrations are current. The boat is located in Montezuma, 10 miles South of I-80, halfway between Des Moines and Iowa City, Iowa.
