Cape Dory 28, 1987
Bebe is a lightly used, high-quality pocket cruiser in excellent condition. Her full keel only draws 4 feet so she is perfect for freshwater, gulf coastal and island cruising in shoal waters.
Bebe has always been a freshwater boat and is one of the last Cape Dory 28s ever produced before Cape Dory ended production in 1987. She is hull #387 out of 388, so she is literally the next to last CD 28 ever manufactured by Cape Dory. Her Universal M18 diesel engine has less than 400 hours on it, so it is in great condition.
Bebe features a traditional oiled solid teak interior with a recently varnished teak and holly sole. She has eight large opening bronze ports and a large forward opening hatch. The solid light blue cushion covers are in very good condition and the underlying foam is thick and very firm.
She has a Doyle fully-battened mainsail and a Doyle club-footed self-tending jib which makes her an extremely easy boat to sail and nearly perfect for single-hand sailors. An Autohelm autopilot is included in the sale (never used - looks new, but cannot guarantee that it is fully functional)
We spent $4,000 on Bebe in 2013 making numerous improvements and upgrades. The dark brown sail covers are new. (An additional genoa and a spinnaker are also included.) There is a hot/cold pressure water system, new VHF and a factory-upgraded electrical panel. Bebe is USCG documented and all required Texas stickers are very recent, including a professional clean water head conversion and associated TX Clean Water sticker in 2013.
New bottom paint was professionally applied in October, 2013. (The bottom was also professionally epoxy barrier coated 5 years ago and there is no blistering.)
Bebe is definitely the newest and quite possibly the finest example of a Cape Dory 28 that is currently on the market. If you are considering a sailboat in the 27 to 30 ft range, Bebe's high-quality construction and 9,000 lb displacement are worth your consideration as she is a proven safe and sound vessel for freshwater or blue water coastal cruising.
