This is a hard-to-find freshwater 16/3 that has spent most of its days on the trailer in a Midwest garage. The boat is in very good condition for its age. It has never been painted and original gel coat is in good condition.
We bought this boat to learn on and have been sailing it on Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa all summer. It has everything you need to tow, rig, launch and sail today. I've rigged and launched this boat single-handed in less than an hour.
The Compac 16 is a traditional looking day sailor with cuddy cabin. The 16/3 is a nice design, because you get the bowsprit for better performance and a simple shoal draft keel without the retractable keel board to cause leaks, rattles or other maintenance issues. There is a lot of factory installed teak wood and trim on this boat as well. The enclosed cuddy cabin allows storing gear or camping equipment inside with two full sized cushioned sleeping berths and a port-a-potti. It's been a great place for the kids to get out of the sun and wind.
The Compac 16 is heavily built with long lasting, quality materials and construction. The full shoal draft keel with 450 lbs. of ballast provides stability yet a shallow 18" draft allowing for easy launching, sailing in shallow lakes and bays, and pulling up close to the beach.
The large cockpit of almost 7' and has room for 4 adults, is self-bailing.
People even sleep in the cockpit under a boom tent!
All in all, a popular design that is easy to trailer, launch, and sail. This is a rugged, stable, seaworthy boat, yet small enough to fit in a garage and light enough to be towed by a small car.
