Weight 750 lbs
This sailboat is in very nice condition. After I bought it, I sanded the bottom (enough to allow the epoxy barrier coat to adhere to the gelcoat) and put four coats of epoxy barrier coat on it plus 3 coats of antifouling paint. While sanding it, I noted that the bottom was in very good condition with no blisters or notable damage below the waterline.
As a small sailboat, the Montgomery 15 has some wonderful characteristics. Its light weight and compact size make it easy to tow around and store. It is also easy to sail off the trailer, so there is no need for a mooring or dock space, unless you want that as a matter of convenience. The boat is perfect for a solo sailor, or two adults, or an adult and two kids. I sailed it a few times with myself and my three teens, it was quite fun, but some might find it a little crowded with that many aboard.
It has a small cabin with a v-berth that is perfectly dry. At its mooring last year, no water infiltrated the cabin during the summer rainstorms. The cabin has berth cushions, and the cockpit also has cushions. The boat comes with a trailer that was made for the Montgomery 15 and has wheels large enough to take the boat on cross country road trips. I have towed it behind my Honda Minivan (4 liter engine) and behind my Ford Ranger (2.3 Liter engine) with no difficulty behind either vehicle.
As a comparison to the Compac 16 of the same vintage, the Montgomery is slightly smaller and lighter. I think it has a better trailer than what originally came with the Compac 16, and it takes up less space in your garage or storage area. As a lighter and smaller boat than the Compac, it has slightly less capacity and a slightly smaller cockpit. It has a centerboard in its shallow keel that increases its draft from 15 to 30 inches, this helps it have slightly better sailing performance than the Compac--as can be noted by the fact that the later version of the Compac 16 came with a similar centerboard. The Compac 16 has more sitting headroom in the cabin because if its quarter berths, and the Montgomery 15 has more places to put things.
Comes with sails, spars, cushions, trailer, and a small outboard motor.
The two pictures are from before and after painting the bottom of the hull.
