  • Thomas Gilmer designed double-ended cutter with bowsprit and external rudder.
  • Boat is currently in the water at a local marina.

    Exterior hull and bottom:

  • Fiberglass hull is cored with Airex, which has proved strong and without problems by other SC31 owners and provides added insulation.
  • Bottom painted (2012) and no blisters were visible on hull.
  • New bronze rudder pintles and gudgeons and shoe for outboard hung rudder were installed (2012).
  • Bobstay hull fitting replaced (2013).

    Deck:

  • Eight opening bronze ports with screens (2006) and two hatches provide good ventilation.
  • Custom hard top dodger with removable canvas side panels.
  • Aluminum hatch in footwell provides access to prop shaft and rear of engine.
  • Aluminum radar arch over stern for radome and antennas.
  • Some cracking of gelcoat at corners and stress areas as is commonly found on boats of this age.
  • The gelcoat cracking does not appear to be a structural issue so repairing cracks and painting deck at some point is optional.
  • Tiller with new canvas cover. Canvas hatch covers (2014).
  • Varnish on exterior teak needs refinishing. Otherwise, overall the deck and hardware are in good condition.

    Sails and Rigging

  • New dyform standing rigging (2012).
  • The new headstay and lower backstays are on board but not installed yet.
  • Most running rigging replaced (2012) Mack Sails full batten mainsail with three reefs and Mack pack lazy jack system (2012), Doyle yankee furling jib and Harken roller furling (2011)

  • New custom v-berth cushion and fitted sheets.
  • Enclosed head to starboard with Groco toilet (2006), macerator (2013), holding tank and manual overboard discharge pump.

Galley to port with double sink, footpump, propane range (2005) with two aluminum 10lb propane bottles, 12v Frigoboat refrigeration with cold plate in icebox and keel cooler. Nav station to starboard in place of optional quarterberth.

  • 85-watt and 55-watt solar panels with charge controller (2010), Rutland 913 wind generator with controller (2011), Built-in 10 amp marine battery charger, 12v and 110v switch panels and outlets, shore power cord, new Garmin 740 chartplotter on Ram swing-out bracket, AIS (2012), Datamarine depthsounder, Simrad TP-32 Tiller Pilot (2010) Furuno DGPS (2003), XM satellite weather (2012), Garmin HD Radar (2013), VHF (2002) with external fog horn/ hailer, four GP31 AGM batteries in two banks (2008 and 2011) and one engine starting battery, LED lighting inside and out, fire detector and carbon monoxide alarm.
  • Mast wiring replaced in 2006. New Victron battery monitor (not installed).

    Engine:

  • 1979 Yanmar 2QM20 20HP diesel with about 2000 hours on it, but was rebuilt in recent years, transmission rebuilt and engine fully serviced in 2013, numerous filters and spares including alternator and injectors and fuel pump, new shaft, cutlass bearing and PSS dripless seal (2013), rebalanced 3-blade prop. Yanmar rebuild manual.

    Ground Tackle:

  • Double anchor roller, Simpson Lawrence vertical manual windlass with 33 lb Rocna anchor with 60' 5/16" BBB chain and 100' nylon rode. Currently the chain is stored in bags either in lockers or on deck but a deck chain pipe could be added to direct the chain below into the chain locker. 22 lb Delta secondary anchor with 40' chain and another 100' of chain and 200' nylon rodes in separate bags. 15lb danforth-type lunch hook.

    Accessories

  • Monitor windvane self-steering (2009), Revere 4-person offshore liferaft (2010) on stainless steel deck mount with inspection service good until 2016, boarding ladder, Echomaster radar reflector, manual and electric bilge pumps, three gimbaled cabin oil lamps. Fenders and dock lines, winch handles, portable Coleman heater, jacklines and safety harness, life jackets, flares and air horns, horseshoe buoy, first aid kit, folding deck seats, bosun chair, bolt cutter, tools, water hose, Jabsco oil changer and fuel polisher, spare tiller. Extensive spare parts inventory onboard.

    Jobs remaining:

  • Two aft bow pulpit bases need rebedding and port side base has some fiberglass cracks in deck that should be repaired. At some point the deck could use repainting, gelcoat cracks repaired and exterior varnish refinished. Head can be replumbed to saltwater inlet. Some of the wiring could be tidied up. A folding salon table is in storage and can be installed. I'd consider adding deck chain pipe next to windlass and swapping vertical, winch handle-operated windlass to a larger horizontal model such as the Lofrans Royal. Does not have bunk leecloths, whisker pole, or dinghy.
