Windrider Rave, 1999

I bought this Rave in March of 2009. She is located in downtown Orlando, but I am moving out of state soon. I'm afraid I won't have time to use her, so I'd like to pass her off to someone who will enjoy her. Also, the good sailing weather is coming up soon in Florida. It's win-win.

  • Raves are hydrofoil assisted trimarans. They need about six feet of water, relatively smooth seas, and about 12-15kts of wind to be able to foil. I usually took her to the intracoastal, on Merrit Island and she was a blast. Unfortunately she takes about an hour to rig from the trailer, so I ended up not using her very much.
  • In late '09 I replaced the bungies and then in early 2010 I had the blade jib repaired by Sails by Morgan.
  • Sailing a Rave is a very wet experience. Fortunately she has the optional bilge pump.
  • There are two sets of sails included. The photos are a little misleading: they're showing the mains with the wrong jibs. Both of the yellow sails are the original set and they're in pretty good shape. The blue sails are Smyth and the jib is beginning to delaminate.
  • One of the previous owners added a small bow sprit (shorter than the sprit in the reacher kit, though the boat does have the winch for some reason). They also tuned the rig for extra rake (9degrees as opposed to 1 to 3 degrees for stock. It does cause a little weather helm and you may want to tune it back to stock; I never found it bothersome and just left it as is. I assume the rake was increased to offset the jib of the blue set since it's a bit larger than stock

    Also included in the sale:

  • the original manuals
  • a beach dolly
  • a kayaking lifevest
  • a small anchor
  • smaller bolts for the rock n roll ama mod
  • a small tool kit with tools to assemble the boat and some spare parts

There are a few flaws; some that need to be repaired, and some that are ok for now:

  • It has the ubiquitous smile crack. I had it repaired, but it has shown back up again. It should probably be repaired before sailing again, but the bilge pump would be able to keep up with it if you wanted to take it out before repairing.
  • Years ago the mast was broken during a hurricane. The previous owner repaired it by riviting some sailboard masts in it for rigidity. I haven't had any problems with it at all. It's ugly, but it works just fine.
  • Some of the rivets on the mast base have broken. It's just barely hanging on there, but when it's stepped it's not going anywhere and I've never had a problem with it. At some point it should probably be re-riveted.
  • This Rave has the optional racing rudder, however the cable is stuck and it's pretty much non-functional for now. Works fine as is.
  • The front of one of the ama's was damaged. It doesn't look perfect, but it doesn't leak or anything.
  • One of the previous owners had adapted a main foil uphaul system. One side works fine, the other side is just a little bent and needs a minor repair.
  • Custom trailer is included, though I don't have an active Florida title for it. It will come with a bill of sale.
