CAL 39 MKII, 1979

  • shallow draft (5'6") with Diesel Perkins 4-108
  • Moored: Miami, Fl

Due to having too many sailboats, I need to part from my dearest CAL39 currently moored in Miami, Florida.

  • This is a fast and roomy 40 ft sailboat perfect for a cruising couple wanting to cover shallow waters like Bahamas and Florida Keys.
  • The rest of the Caribbean has plenty of depth for any boat.
  • This particular model is the shallow draft version on 5'6" and comes with a 150% Genoa, trysail, and Mainsail.

  • The boat is in decent shape and is at the end of a retrofit that includes replacing the teak toe rails and the 80 plus bolts, new stanchion bases and poles, new bow pulpit, rebeeded the two main hatches, new running rigging, new steering wires and chain, and as I had to access the innard of the boat to replace the toe rail bolts; I went ahead and replaced any cosmetic plywood that had water damage.
  • I also replaced the cabin headliner.
  • Last time I took it out of the water for bottom paint, I did not find any soft spots or delamination - the bottom hull is strong and sound. 8 years ago I replaced all standing rigging with oversized wires, rebeeded all hardware to the boat, change all seacocks, replaced all water lines, change the water heater, overhaulled the perkins 4-108 diesel and the smooth velvet transmission, repacked the propeler shaft, etc

  • The $22K price is much lower than a comparable CAL39 - they usually sell for $46K to $65K - the reason is there is need to finish the overhaul. Things that are still needed are:
  • Haulout and apply a new antifouling barrier
  • The Perkins will need a new starter - my guess about $1,000 worth of a mechanic - I already cleaned the fuel tank and replaced old diesel fuel with new
  • Interior lights need to be re-installed
  • mast lights and nav lights need to be installed
  • the galley needs a new gas detector/shutoff valve
  • the icebox has a cold plate but will need a new compressor
  • the electronics and GPS MAPS are black and white..so maybe update them with a color map screenGPS
  • two portlight windows will need to be replaced eventually -eventually the sails will need to be changed - they have in them another 3 years, depending how you take care of them
  • The inflatable dinghy will need to be replaced as the bottom leaks a litlle bit and is annoying

  • If you are handy, then you can get this boat for a steal. If you are not, I have all the contact here in Miami with the Cuban community that is very affordable. Hurricane Cove Marina has reasonable rates and allows for DIY or they can provide their own labor.
  • Due to too many PayPal scams, and others (I am making a folder to collect all the people who has tried to scam me so far), I will only deal with people that will come personally to inspect the boat
