Ensenada 20, 1973

  • Minneapolis MN

  • Length 20'
  • Beam 7'1"
  • 550 lb swing keel
  • Draft 4' max 1' min

If you're looking for a roomy weekender, confident and easy boat, this is it. We have sailed her in the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior.

Numerous improvements and customizations to make it more comfortable and easy to single-hand. Set up to raise and lower mast by one person. Main & jib halyards led aft to cockpit allows you to raise & lower sails without leaving the helm. Rope clutch makes it easier to adjust halyards tensions or reef the main. Jib dousing line in cockpit gives singlehander a quick power down.

Swing keel design draws 12" min, 4ft max so very easy to launch and retrieve. Also makes it beachable in many places. 550 lb keel on 1600 lb boat gives plenty of confidence.

Comfortable seating in cockpit and below (you don't feel like your knees are going to hit your chin!).

  • Pop top hatch is nearly standup height- really makes it feel even more roomy.
  • Flush-deck design gives you the foredeck of a much larger boat -- great for sunning!

She has many add-ons that distinguish her:

  • Custom one-off stern rail- gives the cockpit the feeling of more space and safety, aids in climbing in from a swim; great place to lean back or sit on while sailing or at anchor.
  • Stanchions and lifelines for security going up on the deck. You'll feel safer when the kids go sit forward while you sail.
  • Opening screened ports in forward berth- great ventilation for summer nights!
  • Screens for companionway and forward hatch velcro in place.
  • Custom wood cockpit floor and table add function and beauty, and keep your feet dry after swimming and dripping all over the cockpit!
  • Compass
  • Depth meter ("fishfinder")
  • Windex
  • Sunbrella covers for compass, tiller and mainsail.
  • Permanent high-draw circuit for electric trolling motor (not included).

Being 40+ years old, she does show her age but mostly wears it gracefully! I like letting the teak go grey, but you may prefer oil. Cabin cushions had been hastily recovered by previous owner. Original still underneath. Plenty of "character marks" on the fiberglass.

In any case, she will give you years of enjoyment.

    The basics:

  • Newer mainsail by FX Sails in very good condition. Modern loose foot design gives better shape and adjustability. Two reef points- first reef is great for many windier days when you hate to NOT go out. Second reef is there in case you find yourself wishing you weren't out in the first place!!
  • Jib is fair and will be something to consider replacing next winter.
  • Storm jib in good shape.
  • All sails have storage bags and are stored indoors.
  • Dry as a bone inside. No leaks from hull or top.
  • Deep cycle marine battery
  • Porta potty
  • Anchor
  • Swim ladder
  • Boat hook
  • Life preservers and throwable cushion
  • Galvanized trailer w/lifetime MN registration.
