Venture of Newport 23, 1977

If you are looking for a restored VN23 this may well be your boat!

  • 90% of full restoration is complete
  • I'm only selling because we have moved to a new house and the boat is too big for POA rules.

  • LOA 23'
  • LWL 19.50'
  • Beam 7.33'
  • Draft Board Up 1.5'
  • Draft Board Down 5.5'
  • Displacement 2000'

What Has Been Done - Hull and Deck:

  • Original gel coat was damaged so it was all sanded off All blisters on hull (and there weren't many) were ground out and filled with epoxy All hardware was removed and holes were drilled out and filled with epoxy.
  • Cast iron keel was sanded smooth
  • Keel winch cable was inspected and still looked new so was not replaced All wood was sanded and refinished with spar varnish Rudder had a gouge from the motor hitting it.
  • Filled with thickened epoxy Refinished tiller with spar varnish Hull painted with 3 coats Total Boat primer and 4 coats Flag Blue epoxy Bottom painted with 3 coats Total Boat Underdog anti fouling Decks painted with 3 coats Rustoleum epoxy primer and 3 coats Topside epoxy All hardware bedded with butyl silicone was used anywhere on boat

  • All old carpeting and pressed board bulkheads were removed All wiring was damaged and was removed Interior of cabin was cleaned Cabin interior was painted with Rustoleum Marine epoxy primer and Topsides epoxy New bulkheads were cut from 1/2" birch plywood Table was sanded and refinished with spar varnish Teak trim was sanded and refinished with spar varnish

  • Extending tongue had been welded solid making unusable. Removed welds to restore.
  • Replaced bunks with new pressure treated wood and re-carpeted Front third of trailer was bent. Replaced with all new steel channel Installed new trailer lights Installed new guide posts Sanded trailer and repainted with 3 coats Rustoleum primer and paint Replaced tires Installed new winch

    Original Equipment Included:

  • All sails are original and in great condition - except for a few stains All running rigging is good condition - jib and yankee sheets like new Standing rigging looks to be in fine shape All original foam floatation comes with boat, making it unsinkable Boat comes with pop top canvas but you will need to re-install snaps on cabin top

    What is left to do:

  • Cabin bulkheads are cut but need trimmed and finished A small amount of cabin hardware needs installed Boat did not come with galley so one would need to be purchased/made if wanted Electrical wiring needs installed for running lights and interior lighting Boat comes with interior cushions but probably needs new cushions made All old overhead materials included to use as templates for new overhead

Boat and trailer both have clear Indiana titles

Sail it as is and work on finishing the cabin as you go. Very little is left to do that will make this boat almost like new. I have worked on this project since I bought it in 2012 and I hate to sell it, but the boat is just too big to keep here. I would love to see someone get the boat that would finish it and get all of the enjoyment from sailing her that I had hoped to.

I also have a Yamaha 6hp long shaft motor in excellent condition that I would sell separately for $900.00.

I may consider a trade for a smaller cruising boat (16 - 19 foot). Please, serious inquiries only.
