1985 Bay Hen (twin Bilge Board version, not single...makes for better interior room)
Built by Florida Bay Boat Company
Located in Mobile, Alabama
2019 New "Home" Paint job in Hunter Green last year.
(a friend called it a "Crime Scene" paint job as if you stood off 10 feet it looks great! closer, not so. Overall...not bad for a home job)
2019 New Sail. (still have old stripped sail too I believe)
2019 all new Running Rigging
Excellent trailer (year unknown but it looks like it may be original to boat)
Excellent running 2hp Honda motor
The Bay Hen is a shallow draft Sharpie design with a flat bottom with a decent rocker.
It's Hard Chine and incredibility stiff because of it. I can stand on it's side deck and get very little heel, (I weight 300#).
It has it's mast in a tabernacle, so rigging to go out is a simple matter of lifting the mast and putting in a pin to hold it up.
When done sailing and ready to go home, simply pull the pin and lower the mast into the Gallows at the stern and strap it down for the road trip back home. Doesn't get any easier that that folks!
It is a un-stayed rig, (I do have deck hardware to add shrouds if you want them.)
Excellent boat for those shallow waters no other boats can get too (draws 9" with boards up).
Interior is all flat so there's plenty of room for a weekend excursion or more with camping gear for two people.
There is a slide out work flat that retracts under the bridge deck when not needed, yet when pulled out provides plenty of work space for simple meal prep.
All cushions are included including cockpit cushions. they allow sleeping out under the stars if you want and that's where I sleep if the weather permits...
The Cockpit benches will handle two with ease. and with a very minor modification, it can be closed in such a manner to make it one big bed if wanted...I didn't put it in as it is not needed for my use. Each Bilge Board is controlled from the cockpit by a simple line and when sailing you simply raise one and lower the other when tacking. Cockpit easily seats 4 and is a very comfortable seating height.
There are 2 large storage compartments outside of the Bilge Board trunks and they open to a much larger storage ares located under the Bridge Deck. There are 4 Storage Lockers located out in the cockpit so there in plenty of room for just about anything you can imagine you'd need for a camping trip. One is open for a Gas Tank or other such type of a container.
The sail is brand new in 2019 made by the Schurr Loft in Pensacola, Fl. It's loose footed and has 2 reef points. All running rigging is new in 2019, Halyards, Sheet, and Lazy Jacks.
