Selling the private yacht of Merritt Walter, founder of the famous Rover Schooners, who designed, built, and operated many of the Rovers now found plying their trade up and down the east coast.
Merritt always admired Mr. Gillmer's designs, and acquired the “Antilles” several years ago. We knew the previous owner and the yacht has been well cared for. Merritt has done further repairs, replacements and upgrades. Now in his eighties, it is time to part with one of his favorite yachts and let another couple enjoy her.
An excellent sailor, she is the perfect vessel for a couple to sail anywhere. She is fully found and ready for cruising.
Classic Kenner Privateer Cutter, designed by Thomas Gillmer, noted designer of the "Apogee" - the first fiberglass yacht to sail around the world.
The "Antilles" was built in 1970 by Kenner Boat Company using hand laid up woven roven and matte fiberglass. Molded into the hull are two mermaids, trail boards, and perched on the taff rail are two cast bronze dolphins. On her stern is the classic eagle in flight.
Masts, running rigging, standing rigging, and sails (roller furling main, roller furling jib, plus hank on job) are in excellent condition.
Diesel engine is a Universal M-18, 14 HP, based on a Kubota block. Solid and reliable.
