Core Sound 17, sailboat for sale

Rare opportunity. Builder is a woodworker with skills and tools far surpassing mine. He got it into his head he wanted to build a wooden boat after seeing some beauties on vacation to the Great Lakes. He chose B&B CS-17. He stayed in touch with designers (B&B Yatch Designs) all the way through the build and stuck meticulously to the plans (a rarity).

  • When he got to the rigging he dry mounted with no backing boards or plates. I decided it needed redoing - it does. But being dry mounted made it very easy to remove cleanly. Nothing but holes left behind.

Marine mahogany and white oak throughout. Center Board is white oak, epoxied but not glassed - no need. I faired, glassed and painted the rudder.

  • The joinery is perfect. Finish is perfect. Professional jobs on both. Bright work is perfect.

Things to do - a few. It's the tail end of a build stuff. The cherry on the cake so to speak.

  • attach sailing, rowing and mooring hardware: I have all the rigging hardware: builder rigged as called for in early plan sets. But B&B rethought rigging and published a new rigging hardware version. I have both sets of drawings. I matched my purchases to the new set. Have the entire hardware set loose ready to install).
  • water seal with epoxy some minor inside compartment areas better.
  • coat the bottom of hatches in epoxy. They are still bare wood.
  • fabricate insert (epoxy) wood plug into bottom of mizzen mast. Main mast has a wood plug but gaps need to be sealed with thickened epoxy. Would help keep the mast tightly together at the base.

The two wood bird mouth masts and sprit spars are beautifully done. Its a beautiful hull, wonderful spars, new sails from the designer, and a renovated a trailer.

Sails - new main, mizzen and Mizzen Staysail. New running rigging hardware and lines necessary to rig. No fasteners, no mooring cleats, no motor mount. New hard to find boarding ladder which fits perfectly on stern. New tiller extension and new bow anchor support - all need mounting.

Note on rigging hardware: builder rigged as called for in early plan sets. But B&B rethought rigging and published a new rigging hardware version. I have both sets of drawings. I matched my purchases to the new set. Have purchased the entire hardware set. It’s ready to install.mounting will require placement per plans, drilling holes, glueing back plates, purchasing fasteners, using 3M 5200 marine adhesive sealant.
