This fiberglass schooner features an inside steering station, a private aft cabin with its own head, a bright salon from which one can see out of the pilothouse windows, and a comfortable and private V-berth forward. The main head features a separate shower stall, and there is a U-shaped galley with a gimballed stove/oven and a 12V refrigerator/freezer.

The 2015 Yanmar 50 HP diesel has low hours. There is a manual windlass forward, and a swim platform that folds up on the transom facilitating dinghy boarding. The Bimini could use new Sunbrella, but the frame is functional. The boat has a marine AC and heater. There is a 45# CQR anchor with chain and rode, VHF & GPS. The full-battened main and mizzen both have Dutchman flaking systems.

One of the most innovative features of this modern schooner is the free-standing, carbon-fiber spars. They are four times stronger than aluminum and lighter and allow one to run wing-on-wing without worry of an accidental gybe. The mainsail won’t chafe on the shrouds when running before the wind.

This boat is listed in Ferenc Maté book, The World’s Best Sailboats, where he writes: “Freedom Yachts is one of the most sophisticated builders of fiberglass products in the world today” (97). According to Donald Street, who wrote cruising guides to the Caribbean, “Once the sails are up, they are dead easy to handle … the boat is extremely fast. You set the sails and then there is nothing to do; just two sheets to trim and a boat to steer. To tack, one simply puts the helm down and the vessel is off on the other tack with nothing else to be done.” Ian Tew circumnavigated the globe in a sister-ship. He wrote about his adventures in the book, Sailing in Grandfather’s Wake.
