CL16, 1968 sailboat for sale

Older CL16 in fair condition.

  • I have used the boat for the past 8 years for cruising up and down the coast of Lake Michigan, mostly pulling her up small creeks or using the boat roller to pull her up on the beach.
  • There are a couple of places where the gelcoat has chipped off (total about the size of a dime) from rocks in the creeks.
  • There is also an ugly white epoxy patch job about the size of a silver dollar on the starboard foredeck.
  • That being said, they didn't affect anything so they just didn't bother me.
  • The sails are older with a few stains but no damage. The main has two reefs and the associated hardware on the boom.
  • I made a new centerboard and rudder about two years ago.
  • While the baseline CL16 is unsinkable, it is NOT self salvageable in the event of a capsize / swamping.
  • This is because there is a void between the hull and the liner that will fill with water.
  • I filled this void with 2-part expanding foam in the floor and on the lower parts of the sides.
  • I purposely swamped the boat and was able to bail it out and get it sailing again.
  • In addition I added a mast top float from a Hobiecat to the top of the mast to prevent turtling. MUCH safer for cruising now.
  • Only selling because wife wants a boat that doesn't heel and I bought a Seapearl trimaran on this site.
