Owner a lifetime sailor; first on the Chesapeake- out of Annapolis- then inland in the Midwest. Illinois River, Indiana, Chicago. On the Mackinac in 1978. Sailed out of Mobile in the '80's. Subsequently operated a yard in Chalmette, Louisiana, and was Senior Sailing Instructor for the Annapolis Sailing School on Galveston Bay. For 15 years, held a 100-ton USCG Deck Officer's (Captain's) License.
I have sailed a Commander on SF Bay. I know what a Carl Alberg design- and early Pearson quality of construction- is about. This is a heavy, stable, high-performance, seakindly vessel. It points well and doesn't waste wind drive bouncing around. It's not a rule beater, it's a stable and sturdy, historically correct design. Carl Alberg owned a Commander himself. The hull and rig are identical on the cruising version (with a different cabin) which is called the Ariel.
I rescued this vessel about 15 years ago, in North Texas. It is VERY solid and mostly complete. It was in the slip, and sound when I had it hauled.
This example has a lot of period (original) hardware, and is unusually rigged. It's still in very sound condition. These boats were way overbuilt. Mostly needs interior restoration, and cosmetic refinish. It goes with a custom iron cradle that can easily load onto a flatbed for transport to you. It is currently in dry storage, near DFW Airport. I can pick you up and return you to DFW if you come to look at the boat. I can help you load it out.
I have clear registration/title: which makes a big difference.
I would like to get $2,500 for the vessel. (The iron cradle is worth $500 alone.)
