Selway-Fisher 50/50 Sailing Canoe, 2005 sailboat for sale
15 feet length, 35 inch beam
Description: This boat was built by the seller to original plans from small boat designer Paul Fisher of Selway-Fisher.
It is 15 feet long and comes with two suits of sails and masts – a batwing and a lateen rig.
It features a leeboard, a kick-up rudder, and comes with a registered trailer for towing.
With two people I have put this on the roof of my car.
A 50/50 canoe is a boat which has been designed and built with the intention that it should be as easily and efficiently powered by sail as it is by paddle (in this case a double paddle). The cockpit is wider than normal for a single crew member so that the crew can sit on the canoe bottom out to one side when sailing.
Construction is stitch and tape using System Three epoxy and sheathed in fiberglass inside and out. There are stowage/WT compartments fore and aft.
This boat, with a lateen rig, features on the on the designer’s (Paul Fisher) sailing canoe page on his website. I have since had a custom batwing sail made by a professional sailmaker per the original design. It is the beige one with the blue lateen sail: https://www.selway-fisher.com/Sailcanoe.htm
Of all the boats I’ve owned this has been the most fun and versatile. Unfortunately, I am moving across the country and can’t take her with me.
