I'm putting our sailboat : a Serpentaire 6.50 off-shore capable custom built sloop named Wayward Too up for sale. Sale was pending a month ago but for the last month the potential buyer bailed and it’s back on the market.
Length on deck is 6.50 meters or 21’ 4”. Draft is slightly under 3’ with the centerboard up. Please note this is NOT a project boat, it’s a turn key ready to sail boat that needs nothing. The original builder had it in the water a total of 3 weeks and I sailed it off the trailer at the Salish 100 event in Puget Sound last year and the boat spent 11 days in the water. It has been stored under cover since built and wet sailed less than 5 weeks total and it presents as in truly excellent condition.
We bought her in the summer of 2023 up on Vancouver Island from one of two friends (professional shipwrights ) who built her from scratch over a 9 year period to sail to Hawaii. She was built using the highest quality plywood, fiberglass and west system epoxy using plans by the French naval architect Bernard Veys. I believe she’s the only Serpentaire in North America. The design was popular in the late 70s and 80s in Europe and a Septentaire won the very first Mini Transat solo Atlantic race and it’s very similar to the Globe Class 5.80 boat singlehanded sailors are building for transatlantic racing. The cost to build this boat including all sails, rigging, motor and trailer would be well over $50,000 not including labor.
The voyage to Hawaii never materialized as the other person that was involved in the build passed away and his friend didn’t want to singlehand the voyage. Consequently, she has spent very little time on the water and the rest in covered storage so was in excellent shape when we picked her up.
The first time her keel touched water with us was the launch at Swantown Marina in Olympia two days before the start of the 2024 Salish 100.
I spent the 12 months after buying Wayward Too getting her ready to be a suitable cruiser for my wife our small dog and myself. It has a huge storage capacity for stores.

We had the 9.9 hp Suzuki outboard professionally serviced last year.
The trailer is a galvanized Road Runner with extended tongue and is easily ramp launchable and has surge brakes and two year old tires. This trailer new sells for what I’m selling the boat and trailer for!
Evidently 3 Serpentaires have done a circumnavigation and many have sailed the Atlantic (a Serpentaire 6.50 won the very first Minitransat race in 1977. This is an opportunity to coastal or offshore cruise in an offshore capable boat far more seaworthy than the usual fiberglass lake sailers.
I bought a Sea Pearl 21 camp cruiser last fall and realize I don’t actually have time to use two boats this year.
